As promised last week, episode 22 is my Halloween special as we take a journey into the unknown and spooky.  First up in one of my largest podcasts ever, is my review of the new DVD release The Hilarious House of Frightenstein : vol 1 as we look back at a cult classic from the 1970's.  The spooky talk continues with my review of the audio book Creepers by David Morrell and Classic Chilling Tales vol. 1, old fashion scares for a modern day audience.  My guest this week is John who talks about his forays into Urban Exploration in my region and some of the challenges he has faced in the field.  As always your comments and sugegstions are always welcome.

  • It\'s true I also am a large fan of the show. I boast with pride that all i know of science is what I learned from Julius Sum the Millar...or at least that is how you hear it said when i say it....bammer was a cool way to learn to speak...grog was a kind idiot, library guy was fine. liked Oga Booga seqment, but hated Pet Vet, always hoped one of them cute dogs visiting on the show would have taken him down...Anyway...anyhow...nice tribute show Russ, I think I understand you more now, not that I need to understand this simpler side of you...but I guess I can learn to forget all I have learned, except what the prof. millar taught me....

  • I just listened to this show now, nice job :) couple points re: the frightenstein dvd; The Wolfman segments on the 3 disc dvd features the new voice talents of Dave Crichton, not Billy Van. -this is why you thought \"his pitch was low\" This had to happpen because of music copyright issues. (explained here: http://www.frightenstein.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=000266) The intro/outro music had to be re-played, also because of copyright issues. Other than that, these episodes are as close to original as we\'ll ever see on a retail dvd. Some good news; volume 2 of this dvd set is currently in the works (shhh ;) ) also.. The Wolfman Jack connection goes deeper than you thought, his 1976 tv show was produced by Riff Markowitz who also did Frightenstein (in 1971). Makes you wonder who came first... ;) You can\'t talk about Frightenstein without Billy Van\'s name coming up, then his other local shows come to mind; -Party Game -Bits N Bytes I & II (with Luba Goy) -The Waterville Gang cartoon -Eureka!(that science cartoon) -Bizarre (John Byner) to name but a few (that are on youtube) surely Billy Van is deserving of a spot on Canada\'s Walk Of Fame..no? keep on ramblin russ :)

  • Wow. The Hilarious House of Frightenstein! It\'s amazing someone even remembers it, let alone produced a DVD of it. Billie Van was a bit of a hero of mine growing up. The guy was a chameleon, and seemed such a great guy. Very funny. He was everywhere. I grew up in Newfoundland, some distance away from Ontario, but our town brought in CHCH TV so we got some of the great Canadian shows such as SCTV long before anyone knew what the heck that was, not to mention Smith and Smith, which I loved, (Smith is now Red Green for anyone who hasn\'t been following) but his peak for me was when he teamed up with his wife for the \"Smith and Smith\" show. There was some very good humor there. THe various incarnations of the show afterwards, like the Laugh Factory (or whatever it was called) didn\'t quite live up to the Smith and Smith humor. I still consider Steve Smith to be the Groucho Marx of our age. And as for Billie Van, well, he was a Canadian icon. I didn\'t know he had died, so that saddened me a bit. I vote to give him a posthumous Order of Canada. He deserved it. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Russel. -M-
